Power Of Prayer. Don't Stop,
Don't Give Up!!!
Many years ago, I read a true story about the power of prayer,
long after the person who prayed had died and gone to heaven. I do not remember
the family name, but that’s not important.
The story is that two brothers had grown up in a godly home with their parents, who were Christians. The parents prayed many times for their sons to be saved by accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. Every night the father and mother would gather them in the living room of their old wooden house and read the Bible and pray with them. They never lived to see their sons accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
The parents died and time and weather took it’s toll on the old family home. For years no one had lived there. The house deteriorated so badly that it had to be taken down for safety reasons. The two brothers agreed on a day and time when they would meet together at the home place and proceed in taking down the home. Day after day they worked until finally only the floor remained. The roof and walls were down. They came into what was the living room by the old fireplace to begin to rip up the floor. Both brothers paused and stood looking at each other. Finally, one spoke up and said, pointing to a certain section, “it was here that Dad would gather us together, read the Bible and pray with us.”
As they began to remember and reflect upon their parents and the prayers they prayed, tears of conviction began to run down their faces. Under the burden of conviction, both brothers knelt there where they had prayed with their father so many times and gave their hearts to the Lord. Though their parents did not live to see them saved, God still answered their prayers.
Don’t give up! Don’t stop! While you may not live to see your prayer answered, God will not ignore them.
I can tell you of how my mother prayed many times for her oldest son and a brother of mine who was 18 months younger than myself. She died in 1972 on her knees beside her hospital bed, so she never lived to see her prayers answered. But God remembered them. In October 1974, I preached at my hometown church. My oldest brother never showed any interest in God or the church, but he did come that Sunday to hear me preach. At the end of the message, I gave an altar invitation for those who wanted to be saved and receive Christ as Savior. He stepped into the isle and walked to the altar. There he knelt down and looking up, he repented and asked God into his life. For the past 26 years he has served God. The brother who was younger than I shortly after gave his heart to Jesus.
God remembers our prayers. Even now He is working to answer
your prayers. Don’t stop praying because you don’t see immediate results.
The answer may come long after you are in heaven, but God always answers your
prayers!
