The Absent
Teacher
In 1915, Leon Trotsky attended
Sunday school with a friend in Chicago. The teacher did not arrive to
teach his class that morning and unfortunately, had not notified anyone of his
intention to be absent. Trotsky walked away from that Sunday school class
and as far is know, never attended another one. A few months later he
returned to his native Russia and in 1917 led the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia
which brought the Communist regime to power.
Sunday school teachers do make a difference by their concern for outreach and
their concern for dedicated, faithful teaching. Thank God for them!
The Bible says: "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be
found faithful" (I Cor. 4:2).
Had Leon Trotsky heard the Gospel that day, things might have been different in
Russia. Think of the millions of people that could have been saved.
Sometimes one person, like you or myself, can be God's pivotal point in history
to bring about revival or disaster.
While we do not judge the teacher who was absent and felt no responsibility, it
does remind all of us of our need to be faithful in whatever area of service God
has placed us.
You may not think your presence and faithfulness makes a difference, but it
does.
